3. Relax your back and hips. – The objective is to swing your legs easily with each step, not to shuffle along stiffly. You should feel as if you’re reaching forward from your hip bones, not just your knees, which will allow you to move smoothly while using even more muscles. Having trouble? 4. Aim for a quicker turnover. – Taking longer strides when you’re picking up your pace can strain your hips, knees and feet. Instead, concentrate on your turnover – the speed at which you move your feet – by taking shorter, quicker steps.

5. Focus on the push-off. – As you roll through your strides from heel to toe, push hard into the ground with your feet, and tighten the muscles in your butt.
