Importance of Exercising in Bright Sunlight

As per an Australian research, exercising in bright sunlight as against a climate-controlled gym indirectly helps in cutting down more calories.

11 physically active people have been studied initially and they found out that these exerciser ate less immediately post working out in hot conditions, that is around 97 degrees Fahrenheit or 36 degrees Celsius as compared to a more moderate conditions of 77 degrees Fahrenheit or 25 degrees Celsius.

It is found that people after workig out in a cool or moderate environment, ate 300 calories more as against exercising under hot sun.

Dr Kym Guelfi, a researcher at The University of Western Australia’s School of Sports Science completed her PhD in 2006, investigating metabolic and hormonal responses to exercise. She clarifies about this study by stating, “Our research work suggest that if you workout in a warmer conditions preferably under bright sunlight you will consume less calories in post workout meal”

The research also found the scientific reason behind this strange discovery. They found that, after working out under hot environment, people typically showed higher levels of peptide YY in their blood.

Peptide YY, also known as PYY (Peptide Tyrosine Tyrosine) is a short (36-amino acid) protein released by cells in the ileum and colon in response to feeding. In humans it appears to reduce appetite. PYY works by slowing the gastric emptying; hence, it increases efficiency of digestion and nutrient absorption after meal.
